AGA Summative Assessments Procedures
Spring 2011
PSD Mathematics Assessment Representatives,
Developing district-wide common summative assessments has been a goal of department chairs and many various
curriculum articulation teams over the past three years. The main intent or rationale behind these district-wide common
assessments is to provide common outcomes for all students in the district, a concrete tool to initiate professional
conversations about student achievement (teacher-to-teacher, departments, across buildings), and ultimately to have our
own internal measure for student success to improve instruction and learning. Below is information regarding
administering the exams, scoring the exams, and the data collection process.
Administering Procedures

The summative assessments and answer keys with scoring guidelines can be found in the district
shared folder for the particular course. Example: math on ‘capella\sscshare’  Algebra 1  District Common
Final  2010-2011




Schools are asked to make their own copies.
Calculators are allowed on all exams. Students are NOT allowed to use any kind of summary
card or cheat sheet.
The exams can be split into two days of testing: one for the multiple choice section and one for
the open response section. The sections should be done in one class period (students should not
be allowed to do part of the section and then come back another day to finish it up).
o Note: the Algebra 1 exam has more multiple choice problems this year. One suggestion
for splitting up the test is to do multiple choice #1-25 on one day and then on the second
day finish up the multiple choice and do the open response.
Bubble Sheets
o If your department has and will use a scantron machine to score the multiple choice
section, please
 use a 50 item scantron form;
 have students write their name, ID, school, teacher, and class period on the form;
and
 DO NOT USE THE SCANTRON FORM TITLED “Pearson NCS Test Sheet
50/W”.
o If your department/school does not have a scantron machine, please
 use the pre-made, plain paper bubble sheet provided in the shared folder for the
course and
 only copy this bubble sheet on white or yellow paper (dark colors will be harder to
scan and may distort when scanning for data collection).
Scoring Procedures
We have provided scoring guidelines for the finals within the Answer Key. We are asking all schools to
follow these scoring guidelines.
Data Collection Process
 Multiple Choice Section – please turn in all bubble sheets or scantron forms to Kate.
 Open Response Section – immediately after scoring a class period’s exams, individual teachers
complete the ‘Open Response Reflection Form’ and turn in one form per class period to Kate.
Items to be turned in can be sent through district mail in a district mail envelope or box addressed to
Kate Canine, JSSC – Curriculum. Please keep all items separated or grouped by course and class
section/period. On sticky note, label with school, teacher, and section/period.
All bubble sheets/scantron forms and reflection forms need to be turned into Kate by Monday,
June 6th.
Please do not hesitate to call or email me if you have ANY questions regarding the common finals.
Thank you!
~Kate
