Summary:
The City of Rock Falls, Illinois is seeking applications for a Tourism/Event Director. The
Tourism/Event Director will be responsible for creating and executing a Marketing &
Promotion Plan for the City of Rock Falls. Director will facilitate an active relationship with
hotels/restaurants & attractions within Rock Falls. Work involves promoting and marketing
Rock Falls to stimulate economic development and promote tourism. Director will be
responsible to oversee and coordinate volunteers, sponsors and vendors for community events
including the RB&W District.

Work with the Tourism Committee and City Council to develop strategies, programs,
and policies to promote tourism.
Develop and implement a tourism marketing and promotion plan for Rock Falls
working closely with hotels/motels, campgrounds, restaurants & all area attractions
Prepare tourism/event budget
Oversee creative message development
Develop relationships with national, international and regional tourism based
publications and writers, tours operators and travel agents.
Prepare and release press kit to media; build campaigns and stories for unique selling
points
Implement cooperative advertising programs integrating the tourism related segments
that exist in Rock Falls (merchants, food/lodging, campgrounds, recreation, parks and
river/water activities)
Promote attractions & community events to visitors
Maintenance and upkeep of the tourism website
Provide education program for hotel/motel, campgrounds personnel on attractions and
events in Rock Falls
Participate in media and radio interviews; provide current and updated information to
the press.
Represent Rock Falls in joint planning sessions to establish regional tourism activities;
serve local committees that enhance tourism and foster economic development.
Attend meetings, seminars, conventions, and workshops to further knowledge, stay
informed of the changes in the tourism industry, and exchange information.
Periodic night and weekend availability is required for some events related to the
position and attendance at City meetings.
Event Coordination & Promotion:
• Produce detailed event proposals.
• Develop and manage event budgets.
• Create and manage procedures for all event processes.
• Plan and coordinate event-related services and general event logistics, including but not
limited to:
o Facilities/amenities
o Reservations
o Vendors
o Signage
o Displays
o Special needs requests and requirements
o Event security
o Marketing and promotion
o Event related materials
• Develop and manage event organization structure and procedures, volunteers and
income and expenditures.
• Coordinate contract negotiations with groups and organizations, negotiate contracts
with service providers and vendors.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
• Knowledge of tourism industry
• Knowledge of the Rock Falls area
• Must be a self-starter with ability to work with volunteers
• Must be computer literate
• Experience in presentations
• Able to design and compose publications
Minimum Training and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, public relations, communications, parks & recreation or
a closely related field, and 1 to 2 years’ experience in marketing or public relations work;
or any combination of training and experience which provide the required skills,
knowledge and abilities.
