Open Four-Sided_Family.gsp and go to the Special Quads page.
2.
Drag the shapes to see how they behave.
3.
Go to page Trapezoid. Slect the four sides of the trapezoid and chose
Measure | Slope.
4.
Drag parts of the trapezoid. Use your observations to define a
trapezoid.
5.
Type your definition on the sketch.
6.
Go to the page Kite. Select the four sides of the kite and choose
Measure | Length.
7.
Drag parts of the kite. Use your observations to define a kite.
8.
Type your definition on the sketch.
9.
Got to page Parallelogram. Measure the slopes of all four sides of the
parallelogram.
10.
Drag parts of the parallelogram, and use your observations to define
parallelogram. Type this definition on the sketch.

Go to page Rectangle. Select two adjacent sides (or three points with
the vertex second) and choose Measure | Angle.

Drag parts of the rectangle, and use your observations to define
rectangle on the sketch.

Go to page Rhombus. Select the sides of the rhombus and choose
Measure | Length.

Drag parts of the rectangle, and use your observations to define
rhombus on the sketch.

Go to page Square. Measure the lengths of the sides as well as the
angle measures.
16.
Drag parts of the square. Use your observations to define square.
17.
Go to page Definition. Drag the rhombus so that it’s also a rectangle
(or at least close to it). What’s the best name for this shape?

Based on your observation in steps 17 and 18, write a definition of
square different from your definition in step 16.

Blank Page. Name this page My Rectangle.

Go to page My Rectangle, and construct a rectangle using the definition
you wrote today. Describe how you constructed this rectangle in a text
box.
Extend: Create a graphic organizer relating the following terms: Quadrilateral,
Kite, Trapezoid, Parallelogram, Square, Rectangle, and Rhombus.
