I look forward to teaching and working with you this school year. What follows are my expectations for this school year. Let’s work together to make it all happen. As a student I expect you to be respect myself and the students in the classroom: Listen to others and contribute to class discussion. Focus on me when I am talking. Clean up after yourself, play fair, keep food and drink out of the classroom. Follow directions the first time given and stay seated until you are dismissed. Stay unplugged unless otherwise instructed. Use appropriate language. Treat others as you wish to be treated. As a student I expect you to be ready to learn: Have your calculator (TI-83 or above), book, workbook, pencil, and notebook every day. Get to class on time and be ready to go! Extra help: Times will be posted. I am generally available before school and several times after school each week. As a student I expect you to use your class work time: Use this time for your math homework. Get started so you have a chance to make sure you really know what you are doing. Don’t waste the time with calculator games or doing homework for other classes. Keep your voice down and stay on task. As a student I expect you to do your homework: It is really difficult to learn math without doing your homework. Take book notes and add what you need from classroom notes. Copy down sample problems. Use the moodle. Show all your work when necessary. As a student I expect you to demonstrate academic integrity: Do your own homework. Complete your own tests. Grading: Responsibility points- 15%: You will start out with 135 responsibility points. In a perfect world you will keep them for the entire quarter. You may lose points in the following ways: Respect: Treating myself or others with a lack of respect. I expect you to listen while I am talking, to be an active learner. I expect you to use your work time wisely. I expect you to be ready to learn. For each time you cannot meet these expectations you will lose 3 points. Some days we will have a homework quiz for the last 5 minutes of the period. At that time you will show me how to get the answer to 3 problems. The work and process must be shown. Incorrect or insufficient work will result in a loss of one point for each problem missed. I sincerely hope everyone keeps all their responsibility points. Test points- 85%: Test, quizzes, test tickets, projects. Grading scale: 0,1,2:-; 7,8,9:+; 60% is the minimum passing grade Tests: Tests will not be retaken on a normal basis. Any missed test needs to be taken within a week for full credit. After 2 weeks: 80% maximum grade, after 3 weeks: 60. All tests must be returned to Mr. Bierlein. Notebook: You need a notebook for homework and notes.
