Purpose. To provide a concept of operations for the reception, distribution, and management of Class VIII-A supplies throughout the theater of operations. 2. Definitions and Assumptions a. Medical supplies will be provided to support US Forces. b. Adequate US air and ground transportation assets will be available for the distribution of Class VIII-A within the theater of operations. c. The primary source of supply for Class VIII-A will be the US Army Medical Materiel Agency. d. Lines of communication for Class VIII-A will extend to CONUS. e. A medical logistics detachment will be deployed for theater reception of Class VIII-A and distribution coordination. 3. Concept of Operations a. Organizations and Functions. All medical supplies coming into theater will be clearly marked as medical. The medical logistics detachment (theater) will be responsible for monitoring all medical supplies to include whole blood coming into theater and coordinating distribution to final consignees. b. Facilities (1) The Role III facilities will provide Class VIII-A support on an area basis to all US Forces operating in their AOR. (2) The Role III facilities and medical logistics detachment will order supplies directly from the US Army Medical Materiel Agency, theater. c. Policy (1) Tailgate supply points for sick call items will be established as needed. The purpose of the tailgate supply points is to offer a fast and efficient alternative to medical stations for basic medical supplies. (2) The theater Medical Logistics Planner is assigned to JTF Korea Surgeon’s staff. All medical logistics assets will be under the command and control of the senior medical commander in the AO. The Medical Logistics Planner of the Joint Task Force Surgeon’s staff will provide technical guidance and staff assistance. 8. Coordinating Instructions a. JTF Korea Surgeon should maintain close ongoing contact with activities having command over medical materiel support units to maintain up-to-date information on the status of Class VIII-A sustainability. b. Ongoing coordination between theater logisticians to ensure adequate priority for medical requisitions is essential. Q-6-2 SECRET FOR TRAINING ONLY
