The Student Leadership Process is a partnership of staff, students, and parents working together to develop a positive, respectful environment at Valley Middle School. Since 1993, student leaders have been trained to provide peer leadership toward this goal. This training is designed to develop personal leadership skills that emphasize the qualities of RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, and SERVICE. STUDENT LEADERSHIP PROCESS Through our process, students become more aware of their power to choose to make a difference. They learn to recognize the needs around them and how they may act to meet those needs. Students also learn that service is an essential element of leadership, and as positive role models, they can truly make a difference. VMS sixth and seventh graders are eligible to apply for the Student Leadership Process. Selection for the training program is based on the student’s application and teacher recommendations. The chief responsibility for each Student Leadership participant is to help make Valley Middle School a place of Respect, Responsibility, and Service. • RESPECT • RESPONSIBILITY • SERVICE David McKeag, Principal Valley Middle School 900 Garden View Drive Apple Valley, MN 55124 "Educating our students to reach their full potential."
