THIRD GRADE
Minnesota Zoo Field Trip
2015
The third grade classes traveled to the Minnesota Zoo on Monday, October
19th, 2015. Through a generous contribution from Flint Hills Corporation, the
third grade students had the opportunity to participate in the Minnesota Zoo
Safari Field Trip at NO COST! The field trip provided admission,
transportation, lunch and a zoo class learning experience.

Each!third!grade!student!received!a!dictionary!in!October.!!The!dictionaries!were!
presented!at!Diamond!Path!by!Donna!Wohlers,!a!member!of!the!Rosemount!Lions!
Club.!

The Rosemount Lions Club gets the dictionaries through the Dictionary Project, a nonprofit that provides dictionaries to groups who do similar programs all over the United
States.
The)Dictionary)Project)Mission)Statement:))
The goal of the program is to assist all students in becoming good writers, active readers,
creative thinkers and resourceful learners. According to the project's website, educators
see third grade as the dividing line between learning to read and reading to learn, so the
program encourages sponsors to give the dictionaries to children in the third grade.

How$The$Bond$Would$Address$Needs$At$Diamond$Path$Elementary$

School!District!196!is!conducting!a!bond!referendum!and!School!Board!election!on!Tuesday,!Nov.!3.!If!
approved,!the!bond!referendum!would!provide!safety!and!security!improvements!at!all!district!schools,!
additional!space!needed!for!learning!and!increased!access!to!technology!for!all!students.!!

Specifically!at!Diamond!Path!Elementary!the!bond!would!provide:!
• A!modified!main!entrance/office!to!route!visitors!directly!into!the!office;!
• Updated!security!cameras,!exterior!door!controls!and!emergency!response!button!in!the!office;!
• Changes!to!our!parking!lot!and!student!dropMoff!and!pickMup!area!to!improve!traffic!flow,!pedestrian!
safety!and!lot!capacity;!
• Additional!space!gained!from!magnet!school!additions/enrollments!and!attendanceMarea!
adjustments!for!a!new!elementary!school;!
• Upgraded!technology!infrastructure!and!interactive!classroom!equipment,!and!
• A!districtMowned!mobile!learning!device!for!all!students!in!grades!4!and!5,!and!a!3MtoM1!ratio!for!
students!in!preMK!through!grade!3.!

Vote$early$by$absentee$ballot$
Voters!can!cast!their!votes!on!the!bond!referendum!and!School!Board!election!now,!by!absentee!ballot,!
and!won’t!have!to!worry!about!finding!time!to!vote!at!their!precinct!polling!place!on!Election!Day!
Tuesday,!Nov.!3.!As!of!last!year,!voters!no!longer!need!a!reason!to!vote!early!by!absentee!ballot.!!

At!Diamond!Path,!we!think!it!is!very!important!that!new!students!are!welcomed!
into!our!school!community!and!learn!about!who!we!are!and!what!we!value.!

For!the!second!year,!we!will!use!Student!Ambassadors!to!welcome!our!new!
students.!!Fourth!grade!students!were!invited!to!apply!for!these!positions.!!We!
want!to!congratulate!our!new!Student!Ambassadors!as!they!take!on!their!new!
leadership!roles.!

When!a!child!is!newly!enrolled,!the!Student!Ambassadors!will!tour!them!around!
the!school.!!Then!they!will!take!them!on!a!scavenger!hunt!that!will!lead!them!
into!a!discussion!of!the!3!B’s.!!It!is!the!responsibility!of!the!Ambassadors!to!teach!

The Kindness Wreath
FALL!2016!
By: Mrs. Cooley’s Class
We have a Kindness Wreath in our room.
Each time a person does something kind, s/he can tie a ribbon on the
wreath.
If someone in our room sees another person do something kind, we tell that
person and either the person who did the kind deed or the person who
observed it, can tie a ribbon on the wreath.
Our wreath started with no ribbons and now it is almost full.
When it is full, our room will be so
full of kindness that we will not need to tie more ribbons on it.
If you would like to make your own wreath, you will need:
A metal wreath
Different colored ribbons cut about 8 inches long
Hang it in a place where everyone can see it.
Stop in and see ours sometime!

Dear DP Parents or Guardians:
This is the time of year when head lice
become more prevalent, although it is
safe to assume that one or more
students may have head lice at any given
time during the year. We ask that you
take a proactive approach to prevention
and treatment of head lice so our focus
at school can remain on teaching and
learning.
I am in need of the following clothes if
you could help me out:
Head lice are not an infectious disease,
but are a tremendous nuisance. The
district website

updated information about preventing,
detecting and treating head lice. We
encourage all of you to read and
familiarize yourselves with this
information so you know how to detect
and treat head lice on your own
children. Please contact the school
nurse, Deb Neutz, with any questions
you may have. We will notify at grade
level when we become aware of clusters
of students with head lice.
• Boys and girls sweat pants sizes 610 (especially smaller sizes for
kindergarten/1st grade ages)
• Socks
• Undergarments for boys and girls
(especially sizes 6-8)
I have plenty of other clothing. I really
appreciate any assistance you can give
me.

It’s that time of year again when the weather is constantly
changing. Please make sure your children dress accordingly. It’s
important they have a jacket or sweatshirt, since most days they
have outdoor recess.
