After you take attendance please take them to room N110 to work in the lab the rest of the period. You’ll need one of the other teachers to unlock the door (Kris Hegdal in Rm N203 next door has a key). They’ll be working on a program called ALEKS. They need to be showing their work in their composition notebooks for each problem they do. Algebra 2 (N205) Before you start the lesson, please hand out their Final Review Assignment (on a ½ sheet of paper). This is just for their information so they know when it’s due, but they will not be working on it in class today. Please hand out the 5.5-5.7 NOTES: Solving Quadratic Equations worksheet. These students will be watching three instructional videos and should be filling out the notes while they watch them. These are their notes for the day and thus they should hang onto them so they can use them on their homework tonight. To get to the first three videos: log onto www.phschool.com. Enter the web-code age-0505. Please have them watch these three videos: 1. Solving quadratic equations by graphing 2. Solving quadratic equations using square roots (stop after the first 2 examples are done) 3. Solving quadratic equations by factoring To get the fourth video: log onto www.phschool.com. Enter the web-code age-0507. Please have them watch the first video only: 1. Solving quadratic equations using completing the square When they are done watching the videos give them their homework assignment. They may use class time to work on it if there is extra time after the videos. Homework # Pg 270 #1-19odd Pg 285 #15-18 Advisory Rm 313 Ridge TV might be on channel 57 at the beginning of the period. They can help you with this. If these guys brought in any materials for adopt-a-family have them put them in the box at the front of the room. For the beginning of the period they should be wrapping presents and getting the adopt-afamily things together. Koree Willer is our student representative for adopt-a-family so if you have any questions about it please ask her to help you out. Today is also the shopping day for adopt-a-family. From 1:10 – 1:30 you may send 3 -5 students down to the commons to “shop” for our family. There will be clothes and other gently used items that they can choose from. Please let the 3 – 5 students that you choose that they need to be back by 1:30. They can spend the rest of the time wrapping the gifts they picked out or put them in the box to be wrapped next week. Please remind them that next week is the LAST WEEK for them to bring in their adopt-a-family items!!!! The rest of the period is academic time. They must be working on homework of some sort. They can work together if they’d like. Please only let one person at a time leave to go to the bathroom or to their locker. No one can leave to go visit another teacher unless they have a pre-signed note from that teacher that asks them to come see them during advisory. Algebra 1 Rm N202 I team-teach this class with one of our resource teachers, Debi Varoz. Debi will take care of giving the lesson after you’ve taken attendance. In case something happens and Debi is not there, here are the plans: Hand out the 6.6 NOTES – Parallel and Perpendicular Lines worksheet to each student. They’ll be watching a couple of instructional videos and they should be filling out these notes as they watch it. Have them watch the first three videos only. Please only let one student leave at a time to go to the bathroom and preferably not when Debi is giving the lesson. If there is extra time at the end of the class period they should be working on their homework.
