Marks
SECTION-A
Q.1 A) Explain classification of mechanics.
B) Determine the force that can move a body of mass 1000 kg with
an acceleration of 6.5 m/s2.
10

OR
Q.1 A) Out of the two forces, which act at an angle of 1350, find the
smaller force. It is given that the greater force is of 55N and the
resultant of this force system is perpendicular to the smaller force.
10
B) Explain concept of a Rigid body. State & prove law of
Parallelogram of forces.

Q.2 A) Two men carry a weight of 2kN by means of two ropes fixed to
the weight. One rope is inclined at an angle of 450 and the other at
an angle of 300 with their vertices. Find the tension in each rope.

B) Describe equilibrium in coplanar force system & derive equation
by Lami's theorem if three forces acting at a point are in
equilibrium.

Q.3 A multiple electric coach train has 1000 tone mass. The resistance
to motion is 100 N/tonne of the train mass. If the electric motors
can provide 200 kN tractive force, how long will it take to
accelerate the train to a speed of 90 km/hr from rest?
05
Q.4 Difference between Couple & moment. Also define torque with
formula & unit.

SECTION-B
Q.5 A) In a certain simple machine, the effort has to move through a
distance of 3 m to lift a load through 15 mm. If the efficiency of the
machine is 65%, determine the load that can be lifted by an effort of
25N.
B) Calculate the centroid of semi circular plate of radius r.

B) What happens when the coefficient of kinetic friction
overcomes the coefficient of static friction?
05
OR
Q.6 A) A body of weight 600N is lying on a rough horizontal plane
having a coefficient of friction as 0.6. Find the magnitude of force,
which can move the body, while acting at an angle of 450 with the
horizontal.
