Courses

GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

This information based upon the 2014-15 Umpqua Community College Catalog

A. Writing (2 classes )

B. Math (3 classes)

WR: 121 & 123 OR WR: 122 & 123

MTH : 211, 212 & 213

C. Foreign Language

A proficiency in a language other than English must be

demonstrated by the successful completion of the

equivalency of one-year of a college language.

D. First Year Seminar (4 semester/6 quarter

hours)

GER : 103 OR FR : 103 OR SPAN : 103

Proficiency tests are offered for students who are fluent in a second language. ESL students may be exempted from this requirement as determined by the World Languages Department.

S tudents must take 6 or more quarter hours in the following: Philosophy and/or English Literature courses. For example, the following courses would fulfill this requirement: PHL 201, PHL 202, ENG 104, ENG

105, ENG 106, ENG 107, ENG 108, ENG 109

E. The Arts (4 semester hours/4 quarter hours) Students must take courses from the following prefix areas:

ART, MUS, MUP, TA

F. The Social Sciences ( 4 semester hours/6

quarter hours)

Courses chosen from Anthropology,

Economics, Political Science, Psychology,

Students must take courses from the following areas:

ANTH, ECON (with the exception of ECON 280), PS

(with the exception of PS 280), PSY (with the exception of PSY 280) SOC (with the exception of SOC 280)

Sociology, Social Sciences.

G. The Humanities (4 semester/6 quarter hrs) Students must take courses from the following areas:

ENG, HST, PHL

The courses selected may not fulfill both the First Year Seminar requirements and the Humanities requirements. In addition, consideration should be given to courses that support knowledge needed to teach in elementary schools. For example, US History is part of the curriculum in elementary schools, so preference should be given to taking history courses related to US History.

H. The Natural Sciences (a total of 2 courses

from 2 different disciplines)

Students must take courses from the following areas:

BI, BOT, FN, G, PH

At least one class should include a lab.

ED 100 & 101 OR ED 113 & 114 I. Foundations of Education (2 courses)

J. Electives (to be selected with the assistance of

UCC advisor)

Students earning their AAOT should include these classes listed above into their AAOT programs.

Students should complete 99 quarter hours of transfer credits at UCC to ensure that, when added to the credits they will complete at Pacific, they will have the 124 semester credits required for graduation.

 Only courses with a “C-” or higher will be considered for transfer credit.

 At least 124 semester hours (186 quarter hours) are required for graduation from Pacific. Thirty of the last 40 semester hours must be taken at Pacific University.

 Credit will not be given for experiential learning, military service, life experience, vocational, career/college exploration types of courses.

 Quarter credits transfer at two-thirds credit, i.e., 99 quarter hours = 66 semester credits.
