Response to St Francis Hospice
Quality Account
2011 - 2012
By
Havering Local Involvement Network
Havering Local Involvement Network (LINk) welcomes the opportunity to comment on St
Francis Hospice Quality Account for 2011 – 2012.
Priorities for 2012 - 2013
Havering LINk notes with interest the objectives as set out in the Quality Account. In
particular we wish to commend the following:
 Patient safety: it is fundamental that the awareness of the vulnerability of the people
that St Francis Hospice supports is of priority. The implementation of a safeguarding
policy/safeguarding training process for all staff and volunteers can only underpin
and improve the care of patients.
 Clinical Effectiveness: the revision of the referral forms to include STAS (Support
Team Assessment Schedule) can only assist specialist palliative care. To recognise
that referral forms have to be adapted in order to make it easier for a referrer to
highlight any urgency that a patient may have is applauded.
 To improve the dining experience of patients who use the Hospice day hospice. To
offer daily choices and to develop a menu and food presentation scheme through
working with the caterers.
 To aim to listen to users of the service and ensure that it is incorporated into the
services planning/development.
Havering LINk notes that the feedback from patients and bereaved carers is positive and
wishes to commend St Francis Hospice.
Conclusion
The LINk believes that the Quality Account is representative and provides a comprehensive
statement of services provided by St Francis Hospice.
