Introduction Two-day CEP Course on Interdisciplinary Aspects in Modeling of Manufacturing Processes March 21-22, 2013 Organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering VidyaPratishthan’s College of Engineering, Baramati Bhigwan Road, MIDC, Baramati -413133 Dist. Pune (Maharshatra) www.vpcoe.org in collaboration with Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Powai, Mumbai Modeling and development of manufacturing process involve complex inter-mixing of principles of mechanics, thermal and fluids, materials engineering. For example, though a machining process appears simple, prediction of machining stress distribution near tool would require knowledge of material behavior at extremely high strains, strain rates and temperatures that is analogous to that prevailing in the explosive deformation of the material. Therefore, modeling of machining process involves consideration to many fields. Similarly, the modeling of processes like electric discharge machining, electrochemical machining and grinding, and various micromachining processes would involve consideration to thermal and fluid effects and scaling implications. Therefore, careful consideration to these effects is required while modeling manufacturing processes. Program goals The objective of the course is to understand and appreciate the modeling issues in manufacturing processes. The course would include sessions on fundamentals of manufacturing processes and their modeling, thermal and fluid, and material aspects involved in their modeling. Numerous examples and case studies by the experts in the field would help the course participants to understand nuances of manufacturing processes. The course would enable participants to identify research directions,to coin projects and adopt appropriate research methodologies to pursue the desired goals. Program Schedule Day 1:: 9:00am to6.00 pm • Issues in Modeling of Manufacturing processes • Modeling of machining processes • Role of Material Properties and Microstructure • Research methodology and Optimization Day 2:: 9.00 am to 6.00 pm • Thermal aspects of Process Modeling • Fluidics consideration in Process Modeling • Scaling effects in micromachining • Research directions and coining of projects proje Venue:: Seminar Hall,Department of Mechanical Engineering ineering,VidyaPratishthan’s College of Engineering, Baramati– Baramati 413133 Resource Faculty Dr. Suhas Joshi Professor Department of Mechanical Engineering, Professor, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.
