Migrants who are able to find paid work often send a large part of this money back to their family (these payments are known as ‘remittances’) or they return to their home village/town with increased wealth. This tool helps individuals and families make decisions about how this money is spent. It provides a list of questions for families which might help them make wise choices about what to do with their new income. What are our priorities as a family? What is important to each of us? How could the money be used to help everyone in our family (women, men, children) reach our full potential? Will this purchase help my children’s health, education and general well-being? Will it benefit the wider community in any way? How long will any benefits last? Could the money be spent on something different that helps more people and has longer-lasting benefits?
