Western Front is one of Canada’s leading artist-run-centers for contemporary art and new
music. We produce and present visual art, exhibitions, new music concerts and workshops,
media-art residencies, performance art and other artist driven initiatives.
Description:
Start date is May 1, 2016. Reporting to Director/Curator of New Music, working together in a
team environment alongside the Director/Curator and Music Program Assistant. Assisting
with coordination of three Western Front New Music projects involving research, planning
and implementation of:
1. Youth Initiatives Programming – Sonic Playground: Assisting with pre-production logistics:
timelines, equipment lists for exhibition and performances. Assisting with text and image
content preparation for exhibition signage and concert program for Sonic Playground
activities. Exhibition Preparation of artist biographical and installation details for display
cards for BC Youth Week. Assist with exhibition setup, daily maintenance of the exhibit and
final strike of exhibit. Performances Assist with artist and student logistics: organizing and
realizing staging during rehearsals, tech rehearsals and performances. Classroom visits and
co-ordination between artists, organizers, and students of youth engagement projects.
2. Social Media & Promotion Maintenance: Create and maintain a social media calendar:
write, document, post, track and analyze social media posts leading up to and following
events. Research and follow-up with media contacts.
3. Pre-Production and Performances: Assisting with pre-production logistics: timelines,
equipment lists for exhibition and performances. Assist with artist and student logistics:
organizing and realizing staging during rehearsals, tech rehearsals and performances.
4. Archive: Handle audio/video digital transfers and research music documents.
Qualifications:
Music or visual arts student with good research and writing skills and understanding of art or
music production. Minimum completion of 2 years university or equivalent.
