The Cinematheque Education Department offers film and media education programs and
resources for youth, teachers and other community members. From intensive and engaging
digital filmmaking programs to film literacy workshops and youth screenings at our theatre, we
aim to foster an appreciation and passion for the art of film as well as an understanding of the
impact of visual media in the world around us. We are especially committed to supporting a
vibrant and active youth-in-film community in the Lower Mainland and throughout the province.
We are seeking one Intern registered in the SFU Film program to work on our team.
Position Details:
o Locations: The Cinematheque & various Lower Mainland schools
o Hours: Office hours can be flexible and negotiated; Full-days are preferred when at schools,
generally starting at 8am and ending at 4pm.
o Dates: Various dates from January to late June – these can be negotiated, but the ability to
commit to longer, intensive project timeframes is strongly preferred.
Skills and Responsibilities:
o Critical thinking and media literacy: researching various media literacy topics to source
appropriate and challenging video clips and news items; summarizing articles and
connecting content to workshop topics.
o Film Production: supporting youth using digital video cameras, sound gear, the Final Cut
Studio suite of software, and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, After Effects, etc.) as
they produce short films; sound-passing, color-timing, compressing and uploading youthproduced short films at the end of each workshop.
o Film Studies: researching and preparing introductions and slideshows to precede film
screenings for high-school aged youth.
o Organization and teamwork: maintaining a sense of humor and demonstrating a
respectful, inclusive, and non-judgmental attitude; being part of a team of organized and
conscientious staff who work together to design amazing learning experiences for youth.
