The Cinematheque Education Department offers film and media education programs and
resources for youth, teachers and other community members. From intensive and engaging
digital filmmaking programs to film literacy workshops and youth screenings at our theatre, we
aim to foster an appreciation and passion for the art of film as well as an understanding of the
impact of visual media in the world around us. We are especially committed to supporting a
vibrant and active youth-in-film community in the Lower Mainland and throughout the province.
We are starting a new youth filmmaking program, The Indie Filmmakers Lab, presented in
partnership with SFU School for the Contemporary Arts. We are seeking one Intern registered
in the SFU Film program to work as part of our summer team.
Position Details:
o Locations: SFU School for the Contemporary Arts & The Cinematheque
o Possible Work Dates & Roles:
o Recruitment: various dates from late April to early June – Supporting the
Enrollment Coordinator in scheduling presentations, distributing packages to
interested youth groups and schools, and assisting in registrations.
o Training Dates: June 25, 26, 29 & 30, July 2 & 3 – Supporting program staff with
setup, equipment organizing, research and workshop development.
o Programs A & B: Weekdays from July 6 – 31, 9am – 4:30pm – Supporting Video
Instructors in working with youth groups on specific technical or creative tasks.
o Wrap-Up Week: August 4 – 7, 9am – 4:30pm – Working with Video Instructors to
sound pass and color time films, organize and clean gear and wrap-up the program.
Skills and Responsibilities:
o Technical filmmaking skills: Are you familiar with digital video cameras, sound gear, the
Final Cut Studio suite of software, and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, After Effects,
etc.)? Could you support a team of new filmmakers during the production process,
helping them to learn new technical and creative skills?
o Organization and teamwork: Can you maintain a sense of humor and demonstrate a
respectful, inclusive, and non-judgmental attitude? Are you willing to be part of a team of
organized and conscientious staff who work together to run the program professionally,
designing amazing learning experiences for youth?
