Mrs. Megyese-Counselor - Sept. 2014 IMPORTANT TEST DATE Oct 18TH PSAT Juniors: Take the PSAT/NMSQT in October of your junior year. The NMSQT part of this exam is the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test for the National Merit Scholarship Program. You can only qualify for National Merit by taking this exam in your Junior year. The cost of the PSAT/NMSQT test is $22.00. Times: 7:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. You must sign up in the high school office before Oct. 10th. Sophomores: You can take the PSAT/NMSQT test at the same time as the juniors on Saturday Oct. 18th for practice. Cost is also$22.00 and you must sign up in the high school office. COLLEGE NIGHT September 22 LAKE MICHIGAN COLLEGE “COLLEGE NIGHT” September nd 22 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Mendel Center Grand Upton Hall Parents and students can meet with representatives from more than 60 colleges. You will be able to obtain first hand information regarding your college, financial aid, and scholarship questions. September 24 SOUTHWESTERN MICHIGAN COLLEGE “COLLEGE NIGHT” Wednesday, September 24th from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Student Activity Center on the Dowagiac Campus. September 29 CHRISTIAN “COLLEGE NIGHT” September 29th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Bethel College in the Wiekamp Athletic Center. The representative at the booth will usually be the person making the decision about your admission. Ask questions about their programs, and what kind of ACT score, overall GPA, and academic courses they are looking at for admission into their college. -Juniors/Sophomores: Keep up your grades. Colleges will be looking at your 9th, 10th, and 11th grade grades when making their decisions. - Scholarships that are offered to high school seniors are looking for: academic classes, good grades, school involvement with sports and or clubs, test scores, and volunteer activities. Several will ask for 3 letter of recommendation from past or present teachers, and once in a while will ask that you write a 500 work essay about your future goals. -Be sure to go to Coloma’s web site for up dated information.
