Vidyanagari,Bhigwan Road,Baramati,Pune-413133 Vidya pratishthan’s college of Engineering, Baramati The department of Civil Engineering, Vidya Pratishthan’s College of Engineering organized a one days educational visit to Waste Water Treatment Plant on 25th September2013 for B.E Civil Engineering students. Visit was organized as per Pune university guidelines and recommendations regarding syllabus of B.E Civil Engineering . Visit was organized with the prior permission and guidance of honorable principal of VPCOE, Baramati Prof. Dr. S.B.Deosarkar by the initiative and hard efforts of class teacher prof. C.R.Nayak of B.E Civil. Prof.G.B.Mahesh along with one non-teaching staff members Mr. Kiran Taware accompany & guide the students during visit. Along with the staff members, students of B.E Civil specially Sagar Raskar, Satishh Kale, Gopal Kale, Mahesh Shelke, Chinmay kaldate, Amol Bagul, Swapnil Kanade, Mandar Khaire Patil & Madhura Deshpande, Priya Suryawanshi, Sheetal Chopade from BE Civil engineering takes hard efforts and initiative under the continuous guidance of Prof.G.B.Mahesh which makes this visit a grand success. Students left the college for visit on 25th September. at 8.00 am. The destination was ‘Wastewater Treatment Plant.’ at MIDC-Kurkumbh. In the factory, students carefully studyed and observed the complete process of Waste water Treatment, Functions of Its Components, practical method’s to find out characteristics of industrial waste water. Officials at CETP guides the students regarding different aspect of treatment of Industrial waste water and gave the satisfactory answers to different questions raised by students. Pic 1.`The Flow diagram of CETP at Kurkumbh’ Vidya pratishthan’s college of Engineering, Baramati Introduction The ETP of kurkumbh MIDC started at date 22/06/2006. All the sewage treatment is done by gravity system. The sewage treatment plant kurkumbh has capacity of treating sewage is 1 MLD sewage include the industrial waste from 12 large scale industries and 46 small scale industries. Total sewage from large scale industries is 500 m3/day & that of small scale industries is 200 m3/day. Large scale industries takes primary & secondary treatment at own makes the COD up to 250 mg/lit & then it supplied to sewage plant but small scale industries do not takes primary & secondary treatment at own & hence COD has more than or nearly equal to 1000 mg/lit. It is carried out by sewage treatment plant. Each week (Monday) the MPCB SCOD has come there to check the characteristic of water. At mixing unit the sewage of large scale is mixing & then further treatment is carried out combine. But up to mixing tank small scale industrial sewage has separate treatment is as follows: Vidya pratishthan’s college of Engineering, Baramati 1) Holding- The sewage is Hold in sewage inlet tank. To prevent the overloading on the plant. 2) Equalisation tank- the sewage coming from different industries has the different chemical composition so equalisation tank with suitable proportion. In that Oil & Grease proportion is less than 10%. Pic 2.` Shows holding of sewage in big tank’ 3) Primary treatment plantAt Primary treatment plant add 10% lime, 10% alum& 0.5% polyelectrolyte’s to change the biological properties of sewage & mix well. The hazardous waste is to go drying bed & further it goes to Vidya pratishthan’s college of Engineering, Baramati Ranjangaon/Mumbai for next treatment and remaining sewage goes to mixing tank. The quantity of waste produced is 50-60 tonne per year. 4) Mixing TankAt mixing tank small scale sewage and large scale sewage is mixed in proportion of 1:4 (large: small) & during less intensive sewage the dilution ration is 1:1. Properties of large Scale SewagePH-7 to 8 COD-50 mg/lit BOD-100 mg/lit TDS-2100 Oil & grease less than 10% 5) Aeration TankThere are two aeration tanks of 0.5 MLD capacities & constructed parallel to each other of aeration period is 2 days the activated sludge is recirculated to primary treatment & sewage is allowed into the secondary clarifier. 5) Secondary ClarifierThe sewage clarifier has two unit samples as aeration tank which is connected parallel with each other at secondary clarifier the sewage is supplied at drum so that other secondary sewage should not disturb. 5) ChlorinationThe chlorination is done with 2 kg/m3 in chlorination tank after chlorination the treated sewage is stored in the stored tank. The PH test can be carried out by using Potentiometer. Before find out the TDS first conductivity is measured by using conductivity meter and then by using following formula the TDS can be calculated.
