Some faculty took their students for Industrial Visits so that they could get real-life experience of their knowledge. These


Department of Computer Engineering organized a 2-Day National Conference on
Recent Trends in Computer Engineering and Technology on 27th and 28th February 2015. This conference was conducted in association with IET, India and
APRIL 2015
Computer Society of India (CSI). It covered Expert Talks, Paper and Poster
Presentations which provided innovative platform to students and researchers to
share their innovative ideas and thoughts. It provided an awareness and advancements in Recent Trends in Computer Engineering and Technology. Around
20 Research Papers were presented and 20 Posters were showcased.
Dr. Uday Kulkarni delivered talk on Data Mining With Fuzzy Neural Networks, Dr.
Jibi Abraham talked on Virtualization: Technology Behind Cloud Computing, Mrs.
Anandi Deopujari talked on Latest Trends in Big Data and Dr. Harold D’Costa
talked on Cyber Security with a focus on cyber security issues in E-Banking. Research papers included major areas like cloud computing, image processing, information security, Big data analysis etc. Principal Dr. S.B. Deosarkar chaired
the Conference. Prof. Gyankamal Chhajed, the Convener of the Conference, Organizing Committee, Faculties and Students made this event a grand success.

Department of Mechanical Engineering conducted a Two-Day Workshop on Critical Issues in Nuclear Technology on 16th and 17th January 2015. Dr. Suneet
Singh (IIT Bombay) and Dr Jagdeep Doshi (COE, Pune) were the Resource Per-

sons for the Workshop. The Speakers explored the major aspects in the area of
Nuclear Technology and it was really beneficial for the Faculty as well as students of Mechanical Engineering.
The objective of this workshop was to increase the awareness about the Critical
Issues in Nuclear Technology. Twenty five students from our College and twenty
faculties from various institutes participated in this workshop. Various topics
like Nuclear Reactor Systems and Analysis, Nuclear reactor thermal hydrolysis,
nuclear safety and reliability were discussed during the two days of the workshop.

PARENTS MEET

Department of General Sciences and Engineering organized FE students’ Parents
Meet on 15th March 2015. Total 232 parents were present for this meeting. The
main purpose of this programme was to invite parents to interact with teachers
and know the progress of their wards. It made parents aware about the role and
responsibility of students, teachers as well as their own responsibilities. Most of
the parents shown interest to send their wards to higher education through the
schemes of our college. In this Programme the Toppers in First Semester of First
Year and GATE qualified students were felicitated. Department had organized
Poster Presentation and Model Making Competition and the winners of these
Competitions were also felicitated.

Design, Evaluation, Retrofitting and Optimization of Multi-Storied building during 27th, 28th and 29th March 2015 for undergraduate, postgraduate students,

and Prof. A. A. Sukhdeve. Students and faculties actively participated and interacted with Resource Persons and Professors.

Around 400 students from all over Maharashtra participated in this Programme.
Experts from various industries like TCS, Tech Mahindra, John Deere, Whirlpool, Sanzaru Education Demographic Info., Chetas Control Systems Pvt. Ltd
and CSI officials from Pune and Mumbai Chapters were present during the Programme and guided the participants.

Department of Civil Engineering organized One-Day Workshop on Applications of
QGIS Software for Civil Engineers which was conducted by Prof. M B Jagtap and
Prof. S B Patil on 13th March 2015. This workshop was intended to introduce the
following themes.


To teach basic concepts and hands on experience on few applications to help students
reach such a level that students can further explore themselves according to their needs.

He attended the 5th National Conference conducted by ELTIS of Symbiosis in Pune on 30th and 31st January 2015. He presented his research paper entitled

Learning Writing Skills: Challenges and Solutions. The theme of this conference
was Nurturing Writing in the Classroom. The renowned writers like Randhir Khare
and Dr. R. Raj Rao and Professors like Dr. Milind Malshe (IIT Mumbai) and Dr. C
L N Prakash addressed the gathering and discussed various topics which were
useful for developing writing skills among students. These scholars gave emphasis on developing among students the academic as well as creative writing skills.
It was commonly agreed that creative writing is a process and therefore, we
should keep writing and should try to improve our thinking ability and observation capacity.

They also emphasized that to write a good piece of writing it is necessary to consider four aspects, i.e. 1. Quality, 2. Quantity, 3. Manner and 4. Relevance. The
Conference emphasized on four important topics such as (a) relationship between first language and second language in learning writing skill, (b) second
language as a medium of thought, (c) the importance of grammar in teaching
writing and (d) teaching writing to second language learners. In his research paper Anil Patil emphasized the necessity of practicing writing and introducing creative writing courses in schools, colleges and university departments.

They presented their research paper entitled 5G: Future Digital Society in IEEE
International Conference: Electrical, Electronics, Signals, Communication and
Optimization (EESCO) conducted during 24th to 25th January 2015 at Duvvada,
Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh-India). The research paper has been published
in IEEE Journal of Conference Proceedings.


They presented their research paper entitled FPGA Implementation of Integer Wavelet Transform in IEEE International Conference: Electrical, Electronics, Signals,
Communication and Optimization (EESCO) which was conducted during 24 th to
25th January 2015 at Duvvada, Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh-India). The research paper has been published in IEEE Journal of Conference Proceedings.

with IIT, Guwahati and enhance his capabilities in teaching.
The course included the areas such as Uncertainty models, Information theory,
Combinatorics, Cryptography. Dr. Karmeshu and Dr. Bhaba Sarma were available as Resource Persons. He got the opportunity to interact with eminent personalities of IIT Guwahati.

He attended a 5-Day Coordinators Workshop on Design of Algorithms at IIT
Kharagpur during 16th to 20th March 2015. According to him, course content
of this workshop was very rich. The speakers for this workshop were from the
same institute i.e. IIT Kharagapur.

INDUSTRIAL AND SITE VISITS

Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering organized an Industrial Visit to Piaggio Vehicles Pvt. Ltd. Baramati on 24th February, 3rd and 4th
March 2015. Total 150 BE students visited the place. The objective of this visit
was to create awareness about industrial work-culture among students.

Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering organized an Industrial Visit to GMRT at Khodad. On the occasion of Science Day 105 students
and 5 staff members visited GMRT on 28th February 2015. Each year, Science
Day is celebrated at the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) observatory at

Department of Computer Engineering organized a Two-Day Industrial Visit to
Acme Infovision, Satara on 23rd and 24th March 2015 for TE and BE Computer
Engineering students. ACME Software Pvt. Ltd. offers a portfolio of brands
(software products) that serve small and medium-sized entrepreneurs throughout Western Maharashtra. Prof. S. Shinde, Prof. M. Shelar, Prof. R. Panchal and
Prof. M. Rangdal planned this Visit.

Department of Computer Engineering organized a Two-Day Industrial Visit to
Feelsofts on 11th and 12th January 2015 for B.E Computer students. Feelsofts is
located in Baramati and it is just 4 km away from VPCOE Campus. The Faculty
planned the visit after college hours.
Total 46 students from BE Computer visited this firm. They got nourished with
the concept of entrepreneur, problems to start their own business and opportunities in IT Sector. Abhishek Dhawan demonstrated with simple examples the
importance of practicals in academics. Computer Department planned this visit
to cultivate the concept of entrepreneur in students’ minds.

Electrics Pvt. Ltd. on 3rd March 2015. This visit proved very informative for students as well as the staff. According to students, this Visit will be really helpful
to them in their practical life in future and bring a positive change in their thinking and practical behaviour regarding education and particularly Engineering.

Department of Electrical Engineering attended a Workshop on Road Map to Rural
India at Nimbkar Agricultural Research Institute, at Phaltan. The purpose of this
Visit was to enlighten Second Year Electrical students to apply their technical
knowledge in the area of providing basic amenities to the rural population and
also to motivate them to increase their interest in research. Mr. Anil K Rajvanshi,
the Director of the Institute, has worked on renewable energy and agricultural
field. Therefore, he proved to be the source of motivation for students.
INDUSTRIAL AND SITE VISITS

This workshop involved the visit to their innovation like efficient multifuel lantern, a stove running on 50% (w/W) and more ethanol/water concentration, electric and improved cycle rickshaws, a motor assisted and hand operated
rickshaw for physically handicapped persons, a lantern-cum-stove running

on ethanol for rural areas, an A class weather station for its agriculture and renewable energy research. Prof. Pooja Jaiswal and Prof. Dhondiram Kakre successfully planned this Visit.

Department of Mechanical Engineering organized an Industrial Visit to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) on 27th March 2015. Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust is a
Shipping Terminal. JNPT is in New Mumbai harbor. It is largest container port in
India. This port has picked up nearly all of the traffic from Mumbai main port
reducing the load on the mainland.
Total 47 Second Year students along with 3 faculty members visited JNPT to
know about Export and Import activities carried out in India and other countries. Students learnt the details about JNPT: Details of Port, Citizens Charter,
Features performance, future plans, shipping and marine services, terminals
and details about ISO certificate and Environment.
They got knowledge about the Customers and about the activities with them
such as Daily Vessel, Expected Vessels, Login and Web Access, Circulars and
Trade notices, Public grievanes and E-Advice. Students also got the information
about Monthly Performance, Record Performance, Operating Performance Profile,
awards and recognitions, and administration of the Port. Prof. Vishal Bhagwat,
Prof. Kulkarni and Prof. Hanumant Borate planned this Visit.
