COURSE
DESCRIPTION:
The
theory
and
practice
of
color,
lines,
and
halftone
image
scanning.
Activities
include:
color
separations,
corrections,
and
working
with
halftones.
Prerequisite:
GCOM
211.
Course
is
2
hours
lecture;
2
hours
lab.
COURSE
OBJECTIVE:
The
main
purpose
of
this
course
is
for
students
to
gain
experience
in
scanning,
manipulating
images,
and
creating
compositions
with
Photoshop.
In
accordance
with
University
policy
and
the
Americans
with
Disabilities
Act
(ADA),
academic
accommodations
may
be
made
for
any
student
who
notifies
the
instructor
of
the
need
for
an
accommodation.

ATTENDANCE:
It
is
the
University’s
policy
that
students
will
attend
all
class
sessions
except
when
unable
due
to
emergency
or
extreme
illness/hospitalization.
Students
who
are

extreme
illness/hospitalization
should
call
Student
Development
and
Orientation

SDO
may
automatically
contact
all
of
the
student’s
instructors
about
these
types
of
excused
absences.
The
instructor
is
under
no
obligation
to
aid
the
student
in
make‐up
work
for
unexcused
absences.
Attendance
will
be
taken
throughout
the
semester
and
will
account
towards
the
student’s
final
grade.
Arriving
late
and
leaving
early
is
not
recommended.
Students
who
are
more
than
15
minutes
late
for
class
will
not
earn
full
attendance
credit.
Perfect
attendance
will
earn
extra
credit
points.
The
instructor
reserves
the
right
to
award
students
in
attendance
project
due
date
extensions
and/or
the
opportunity
to
earn
extra
points.
MATERIALS:
There
is
to
be
no
smoking,
drinking
or
eating
in
the
laboratory.
Furthermore,
students
are
expected
to
pick
up
after
themselves
in
the
lab.
Course
Charges
–
The
charge
for
materials
and
equipment
used
in
this
course
is
$25
and
will
need
to
be
paid
within
the
first
two
weeks
of
the
semester
(cash
or
checks
made
payable
to
WIU).
The
names
of
students
who
do
not
pay
will
be
submitted
to
the
department
office,
and
those
students
will
be
required
to
pay
missing
GCOM
lab
fees
prior
to
graduation.
Flash/jump
drives
–
Students
will
be
responsible
for
providing
their
own
USB
compatible
flash/jump
drives
on
which
to
save
their
files.
Students
are
encouraged
to
backup
their
files
occasionally
on
CDs.
Files
left
on
the
server
are
at
student’s
own
risk.
Color
Copies
–
Upon
completion
of
each
project,
students
can
request
one
free
color
copy
of
the
file;
each
additional
color
copy
costs
$2.
Free
color
copies
can
only
be
made
for
work
completed
for
this
class.
PROJECTS:
Due
Dates
–
Due
dates
must
be
met
to
receive
full
credit
on
all
projects.
Except
when
otherwise
indicated,
all
projects
(including
required
files
and
printouts)
are
due
at
the
beginning
of
class.
Projects
that
are
submitted
after
assignments
have
been
collected
will
be
reviewed
but
a
score
of
zero
will
be
given.
Each
student
can
request
an
extension
of
up
to
one
week
on
any
ONE
project
during
the
semester.
Choose
wisely.
The
extension
must
be
requested
prior
to
the
project’s
due
date.
Additional
extensions
will
not
be
granted
except
in
the
case
of
legitimate
documented
illness,
hospitalization,
or
emergency.
Project
Subjects
&
Themes
–
Only
projects
that
are
appropriate
for
the
classroom
environment
will
be
graded;
submitted
project
with
inappropriate
content,
subjects,
or
themes
will
automatically
receive
a
score
or
zero.
It
is
the
student’s
responsibility
to
choose
appropriate
subjects
and
to
talk
with
the
instructor
when
he
or
she
is
unsure
whether
an
idea
is
acceptable.
Midterm:
Review
information
for
the
midterm
will
be
presented
one
week
prior
to
testing.
The
midterm
must
be
taken
during
the
scheduled
exam
time.
Students
will
not
be
permitted
to
use
exam
aids
during
the
exam,
and
the
exam
may
include
materials
not
covered
during
the
review
session.
Academic
Dishonesty:
Academic
dishonesty
will
not
be
tolerated.
Students
who
are
caught
acting
dishonestly
on
any
exam
or
on
any
work
submitted
in
class
will
be
subject
to
penalty:
at
a
minimum,
the
activity
in
question
will
receive
a
score
of
zero.
