Program Goals for Student Learning:
By graduation, Engineering Technology students should be able to:
1. Think critically and creatively;
2. Understand the theoretical principles of the profession;
3. Understand and apply relevant technology in the solution of technical problems;
4. Organize, manage, and maintain projects;
5. Develop an appreciation for ethical and professional practices;
6. Develop and refine oral, written, and visual communication skills; and
7. Demonstrate an overall competency in the program objectives.
Course Objectives:
1. To provide an understanding of philosophy, principles and methodologies for improving
process quality
2. To provide an understanding of the importance to have a profound knowledge about a
system/process.
3. To develop knowledge of statistic theory and its application in process quality control.
4. To develop a capability of applying quality tools (including Control charts, Pareto Diagrams,
Cause and Effect Diagrams and Designed experiments) to solve real world problems, and
present the results.
5. To develop a skill for determining wither a process is capable of producing product with
required quality and improving a process to the desired quality.
6. To provide a knowledge of ISO 9001-2000
Course Catalog Description:
The use of statistical quality control tools to include attribute and variable data to control, troubleshoot
and improve manufacturing processes. Design of experiments will be included.

Students shall select a course related topic, write report on it and represent the report in class
Students are expected to conduct self designed experiments for class projects, and represent
the results in class
Students are encouraged to practice Excel programming and other computer skill in all the
assignments and projects
Any unexcused late work will be penalized by 10% for each delayed week.
2% of total points will be reduced for any unexcused absence session
Student Evaluation:
Grades of A, B, C, D, and F may be given in this course. Accordingly, the following range will be used to
apply all grades: 100-90 = A, 90-80 = B, 80-70 = C, 70-60 = D, AND 59-0 = F. Students’ grade will

Final Examination:
Time and date is prescribed on university final exam schedule. Any exceptions to the final exam schedule
must be approved by department chair and the Dean of the College of Business and Technology in
writing including student’s name, ID# and signatures.

Rules for Giving an Incomplete:
According to WIU policy, a temporary symbol of I (Incomplete) for a course may be given only when a
student, due to circumstances beyond his or her control, has been unable to complete the course
requirements within the official limits of the term. The circumstances must be documented to the
instructor’s satisfaction.
Academic Integrity:
All students are expected to maintain a high standard of conduct. Any case of scholastic dishonesty
(cheating, plagiarism, collusion, diskette copying/sharing, etc.) or other misconduct will be treated by all
University regulations and policies on Academic Integrity.
Use of Internet resources:
Students are expected to have WIU computer account and may use internet to search course related
information for report and presentation.
Access & Disabilities:

Resolution of Problems:
Should a problem occur, students should speak to their instructor first. If the problem is not resolved,
meet with the chair of the department. If the problem continues to be unresolved, go to the College of
Business and Technology’s Dean.
