Kirkwood Community College students.

Tips for Walk-In Tutoring
General Tips:


Your instructor is your best resource! Ask questions in-class or during their office hours.
Read your syllabus and course schedule. This will help you properly prepare for tests and quizzes.
Before you meet with the tutor:



Bring your textbook, handouts from class, homework, tests, notes, etc.
Attend all classes, ask questions, and take notes.
Start your homework and write down specific questions you want to ask the tutor.
While working with the tutor:




The tutor may be working with several students, and you may have to wait for the tutor to get to you.
It’s normal to ask questions or to have the tutor explain a challenging concept again.
The tutor will not do your homework for you and will not correct your completed homework.
Tutors are not meant to replace your instructor. Tutors may need to review your textbook or take time
to work out an answer.

Work one-on-one with a writing instructor at any
stage of a writing assignment for any class.
Assistance could include: Explanation of
assignment, generating ideas, organizing and
developing ideas, grammar checking, proofing and
citing sources. Students can also seek assistance
with scholarship application essays, resumes, letters
to immigration and university application essays.
