Where can I take my exams?
Exams should be taken on main campus in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City campus or the nearest
county Kirkwood Center. (If your instructor gives you other instructions for requesting exams,
please follow their instructions.)
Monitored exams are available at any of our Kirkwood locations

Can I just walk in?
Main Campus in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City do not require appointments.
To test at one of the other locations, please call ahead and set up an appointment.

What do I need to know?
It is important to tell the Test Center proctor that it is a Distance Learning course you are testing
for.
Photo identification is required.
You should also know which term you are registered for (starting date), and your instructor’s
name.
Will they know my exam is online?
If you are taking an exam for an internet delivered class, please tell the proctor.
Your course website should give you information about your exams (whether to expect a
written, computerized or online exam).
Please check for this information to ensure that you take the correct exam.
Testing at a Non-Kirkwood site
What if I don’t live near a Kirkwood center?
If you do not live near campus or a Kirkwood Center, it is usually possible to send exams to
another college testing center or library, or
public library to be monitored
Courses designated as a “7-county” course may not allow you to test at a non-Kirkwood location.
How do I set up a proctor site?
You will need to make the necessary arrangements with the location that will proctor
We must be able to confirm the validity of the proctor before exams can be sent.
Exams MUST be sent to the proctor and completed AT the school or library.
How do I request my exams?
You will need to provide the Distance Learning office with your request.

What information do you need?
There are several pieces of information that is required:
Student name
Student ID Number
Proctor’s full name
Name of college or library
Testing site mailing address
Proctor’s phone
Proctor’s email
I completed the exam request, now what?
How are my exams sent?
Written exams will be sent via regular postal mail.
Be sure to submit your request early enough to allow them to reach your proctor before any
deadlines set by your instructor (at least 7 business days).
What if my exams are online?
If you are requesting only passwords for online exams, we are able to email the information ONLY
if we can verify the proctor’s email address.
If you are requesting both written exams and passwords, the passwords will be postal mailed with
the written exams.
How will my instructor get my completed exam?
Online exams are self-timed and results are sent automatically through the website to your
instructor.
Postage-paid envelopes are provided to the proctor for return of written exams.
