WOI, IA 10-16-07 Iowans In Space Two astronauts with Iowa ties are floating high above the earth in the International Space Station. Clay Anderson is an Iowa State University graduate and has been up there since June. Peggy Whitson is a Beaconsfield native and has become the first woman to command the International Space Station. Whitson is no stranger to space. Her first trip was in 2002. She spent six months on the station. Both give Iowa a lot of credit for their space careers. Anderson is set to return to earth later this month. Meanwhile Whitson will be returning in the spring.
