Associated Press 07-24-07 Iowan To Lead October Space Flight CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- A southwest Iowa native will lead a long-duration space flight in October. Peggy Whitson, 47, will command the Expedition 16 crew to the International Space Station. She spent six months aboard the Space Station in 2002. Whitson is a 1981 graduate of Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant. Her hometown is Beaconsfield. Endeavour will deliver another truss segment to the International Space Station. The flight will be the second space shuttle mission of the year. Currently aboard the ISS is Iowa State University graduate and Ashland, Neb., native Clayton Anderson.
