Gazette Online, IA 09-06-07 Enrollment up at ISU, UNI this fall By Diane Heldt The Gazette diane.heldt@gazettecommunications.com More students are enrolled at Iowa State University in Ames and the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls this year, officials with the two universities said this morning. ISU's enrollment is 26,160, an increase of 698 students, or 2.7 percent, from last fall. UNI's enrollment is 2.8 percent this fall -- 12,609 compared to 12,260 last year. University of Iowa officials will release fall enrollment numbers Wednesday. The UI started classes a week later than ISU and UNI. ISU gained 564 undergraduate students, 53 veterinary medicine students, and 81 graduate students. Every college experienced an overall increase in the number of students enrolled at ISU. Total ISU enrollment exceeds earlier university projections to the state Board of Regents by 809 students, and it's the first time since 2002 that enrollment has climbed at ISU. UNI showed significant growth in new freshmen, with more than 200 students above last year's number, a 12 percent increase. UNI also has 427 more new graduate students, a 10.6 percent increase. The numbers are based on students enrolled through the second week of class.
