Body Found In ISU's Lake LaVerne
Body Located After Expanded Search
AMES, Iowa -- A body has been found that matches the description of an ISU
college student who had been missing since last weekend.
Iowa State University sophomore Abel Bolanos, 19, has been missing since
early Saturday morning after leaving a party. He left his car and dorm keys at the
party he had attended, according to police.
ISU police commander Eugene Deisinger said that at 3:39 p.m. that a diver
team found the body in the lake. He stressed that no positive identification has
yet been made.
The search had been focused around Wallace Hall, where Bolanos lived and
between the apartment where he was last seen. The search then expanded
Tuesday to include bodies of water such as Lake LaVerne.
Authorities learned Monday night that a credit card and debit card belonging to
Bolanos were dropped off at an Ames bank prior to 10:30 a.m. Monday.
Teams of volunteers helped trained searchers from the STAR 1 team, Civil Air
Patrol and local law enforcement officials.
Deisinger said the Bolanos family has been notified. He said the Iowa Division of
Criminal Investigation, the state medical examiner and Ames police are also at
the scene.
He said no foul play is suspected.
