Des Moines Register 11-07-06 ISU financial supporters say they'll back football program — no matter what RANDY PETERSON REGISTER STAFF WRITER People will continue to financially support Iowa State athletics, regardless of the state of the football program, according to a check of some big-buck Cyclone contributors. “I support Iowa State, and I will always support Iowa State,” said trucking magnate Dick Jacobson of Des Moines. Jacobson’s name is attached to the building that houses Cyclone football coach Dan McCarney, whose job status remains uncertain heading into Saturday’s 2 p.m. game at Colorado. Iowa State is 0-6 in the Big 12 Conference, and two more losses would be the second time in four seasons the Cyclones have lost all conference games. Some fans have expressed dissatisfaction by leaving Jack Trice Stadium before games have ended, as well as voicing opinion through Internet and the media. Key financial supporters say they are just as discouraged as McCarney at the surprising season, but not upset enough to withdraw their resources. “I will always be loyal to Iowa State University,” said Ames realtor Tom Randall, a football stadium suite holder and former Cyclone football player. “What I’m disappointed about it that some people have short memories. Dan McCarney will fix what’s wrong right now with Iowa State football. I’m OK with Dan getting a mulligan for this season.”
