SENIOR MUNICIPAL POOL LIFEGUARDS PAY SCALE: TASK LEVEL T5 BASIC SALARY: R 56.98 PER HOUR (excludes annual cost of living increase) REF NUMBER: SR 15/16 Requirements: A Grade 10 certificate A valid lifeguard certificate would be an advantage The ability to meet the requirements according to the standard as per Lifesaving South Africa At least 24 months (4 seasons) relevant experience Proven Supervisory Experience would be an advantage Physically fit. Clear criminal record and no pending criminal cases, awaiting trial and/or pending sentencing cases Good communication and conflict handling skills and upholding the image of the City at all times Job Purpose: Perform lifeguard duties and to supervise and train staff (Lifeguards) to ensure the safety of patrons and to provide a clean and safe facility. Key Performance Areas include: Supervisory and administrative duties and deputizing for the Line Manager as and when required Lifeguarding functions including the following: o o o o o o Patrolling, monitoring and controlling the pool and deck and diving areas. Monitoring and controlling the entrance to and exit from the pool and physical activities of patrons. Identifying, preventing and removing hazards and threats to pool users Recognising and responding quickly to all emergency situations Ensuring own safety and that of others while participating in aquatic rescues Applying the correct/prescribed lifesaving and first–aid procedures. All compulsory testing, relevant certificates (and supporting documentation) as well as the various components undertaken during the selection process will contribute towards the overall outcome of the selection process for each individual. Candidates who pass the swim test will: be required to submit their fingerprints for the purpose of obtaining clearance certificates by the City’s Safety & Security Department. The Executive Director: Community Services is the final authority on the total number of lifeguard appointments for the Season, also the length and duration of the contracts offered (some contracts may be for the full period and others for a shorter period).
