Attachment ESSS - 1 MILWAUKEE AREA TECHNICAL COLLEGE DISTRICT BOARD EDUCATION, SERVICES, AND STUDENT SUCCESS December 8, 2015 CALL TO ORDER The regular monthly meeting of the Education, Services, and Student Success Committee of the Milwaukee Area Technical College District Board was held in open session on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, and called to order by Ms. Mary Scheibel at 5:02 p.m. in the Board Room, Room M210, at the Milwaukee Campus of Milwaukee Area Technical College. ITEM C: APPROVAL OF MINUTES – November 17, 2015 – Attachment 1 Motion: The minutes were approved without objection. ITEM D: COMMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ITEM E: ACTION ITEMS NONE ITEM F: DISCUSSION ITEMS F-1 Pathway Update – Computer Simulation and Gaming – Attachment 2 Discussion: Dr. Mohammad Dakwar, provost, introduced Dr. Roy Vargas, interim dean, School of Business and MCA; Mr. Brian Carlson, associate dean, School of MCA; and Mr. Michael Anderson, faculty. Dr. Vargas noted that this program began in FY2010 with the first set of graduates in FY2012. This program started as a combination of the Visual Communications and Animation Programs and is the only associate degree in the state focusing on game development. There was a discussion related to the need for game development as well as virtual reality and the differences. Education, Services, and Student Success Minutes of December 8, 2015 Page 2 F-2 Academic Innovation – Virtualized Lab Environment and Online Materials Discussion: ITEM G: Dr. Dakwar introduced Mr. Patrick Feder, faculty, IT Networking Program. Mr. Feder briefly reviewed the project that was implemented with the Virtualized Lab Environment and Online Materials project and the impact it has had on the program and the students. INFORMATION ITEMS G-1 Child Care Update Discussion: Ms. Melissa Frankewicz, manager, Child Care Services noted that enrollment in the four locations of children’s centers has remained constant during these times of declining enrollments. Ms. Frankewicz highlighted that the four centers serve about 250 MATC students with their child care needs as well as serving 27 Early Childhood Education students as their practicum site. G-2 Enrollment Update a. MATC Fall 2015 Program Students Returner and Leaver Survey Results Discussion: Dr. Dakwar distributed a list of concerns gathered from the focus groups that were held with returning students as well as the strategies and champions for addressing those concerns. Dr. Trevor Kubatzke, vice president, Student Services indicated that we are going to try to survey the leavers to gather similar information from them. b. Promise Update Dr. Kubatzke announced that as of December 1, 2015 the Promise Scholarship has over 3200 applications with over 2800 of those applicants also completing MATC applications. The next deadline is for Financial Aid applications in March, 2016. G-3 Dashboard Indicators – Attachment 3 Discussion: Dr. Mohammad Dakwar, provost and Ms. Christine McGee, director, MATC Foundation briefly reviewed the dashboard presentation. G-4 Media/Public Relations Coverage Update – Attachment 4 Discussion: Ms. Kathleen Hohl, director, Communications and Events highlighted the media and public relations coverage for MATC during the Fall semester. There was a discussion about the role of general and targeted marketing as well as the program specific pieces. G-5 MATC Transforming Testimonials Video The video was shown and emailed to the committee members.
