Dear Eustis:
As you know from our discussions the combined School Districts of Martinsburg would
like to create a Nature Center for the use of the two Lewis County Schools 1 (DIST17
and DIST23) and the South Lewis School. The requirements for the Nature Center 2
are:

We desire that the selected location (Tax Parcel) be no more than 6 miles from
each of the schools. If absolutel y necessary this distance can be expanded but in
no case can it be more than 10 miles.
 The selected parcel(s) should be between 10 and 100 acres inclusive.
 The selected parcel (s) must have both forest and agriculture cover t ypes, the
nearer 50/50 the better .
 The selected parcel must contain a stream .
 It is preferable that the parcel be owned by the town, the county (Lewis), or the
state. But the Districts would be willing to purchase the selected pa rcel if
necessary.
Your report should state in a letter to me the results of your anal ysis and a summary of
the procedure you used. In addition we will need a map 3 showing the location of the
three schools and the location of the selected parcel(s). If mul tiple sites are found then
they should be prioritized relative to our requirements.
As you know the NY State Office of Geographic integrit y 4 requires that you submit
your initial plan for anal ysis in addition to the final process as an appendix. The final
process used should be clear to any person with GIS training.
