Program Description
Come prepared for an interactive day of practicing Clinical Supervision. This day of training is
for experienced Clinical Supervisors. We will be using role-plays along with making and using
video and audio recordings to practice our supervisory skills.
Our focus will be on the following concepts: skill development of the supervisee; using
theory/knowledge/education models in supervision; ethical considerations in supervision; use of
self of the supervisee; use of self of the supervisor; importance of supportive supervision to
manage stress and discouragement of supervisee; content vs process in supervision; and systems
theory regarding clinical supervision.
Program Objectives
Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to:
1. Customize their style of clinical supervision to meet their supervisees needs;
2. Recognize when to choose an educational model of clinical supervision and when to
choose a supportive model of clinical supervision;
3. Demonstrate the ability to teach specific skills to supervisees;
4. Identify the importance of “use of self in the supervisee” and “use of self in the
supervisor”;
5. Practice using audio and video recordings in clinical supervision sessions.
Target Audience
This workshop is designed for experienced Clinical Supervisors in the fields of Mental Health,
Substance Abuse and the Human Service Profession.

Faculty
Dayna Guido, MSW, ACSW, LCSW is a clinical social worker who has been working with
children, adolescents, adults and families since 1979. She is in private practice in Asheville, NC
where she practices individual, family, group and play therapy, as well as providing extensive
clinical supervision. Dayna has served as a Clinical Instructor and Field Advisor for the School
of Social Work, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for 15 years and is currently an
Adjunct Instructor at The Lenoir-Rhyne Center for Graduate Studies in the Counseling
Department. Dayna’s love for training is evidenced by the fact that thousands of participants
over the years have rated her as an excellent presenter.
