An illustration of the shorts, view D is on the envelope containing the pattern. (b) A piece of fabric at least 90 cm wide and 40 cm long. (c) A piece of light weight interfacing 10 cm wide and 40 cm long. (d) Sewing thread to match the fabric. (e) Tacking thread. For this test you are to prepare the pattern and make up the right half of the shorts, View D size 8. Before you begin, you should study the question paper carefully, together with the illustration, the pattern and the fabric. For the purpose of this test the belt carriers are not to be worked. This is a multi-size pattern. The cutting line for size 8 is the solid black line. A seam allowance of 1.5 cm is allowed within the pattern although it is not marked. (b) Select and separate pattern pieces 8, 9, 10 and 11 for the shorts View D. (c) On pattern piece 11 cut through the CB line and use only the piece labelled ‘11 WAISTBAND’ 2 Cutting out (a) Place the pattern pieces on the fabric as shown in the layout. (b) Cut out the right hand side of the shorts View D, Size 8, without the belt carriers. (c) Cut out the interfacing for the waistband. (d) Transfer the pattern markings which are needed for making up the test. 3 Making up It is important that pressing is done at all stages. Make up the right half of the shorts View D Size 8, without the belt carriers. (a) Pocket (i) Make up the pocket and place it in position on the front. (ii) Edge stitch the pocket and strengthen the top corners. (iii) Secure the ends of machining by hand. (b) Dart (i) Stitch the dart at the back. (ii) Secure the ends at the point. (c) Inner leg seam Join and neaten the inner leg seam. (e) Side seam (i) Join the side seam of the shorts leaving the seam open below the large. ● (ii) Press the seam open. (iii) Neaten the raw edges of the seam. 6050/2/M/J/02 [Turn over 4 (e) Waistband (f) (i) Fuse or tack the interfacing to the waistband. (ii) Tack and machine the waistband to the upper edge of the shorts, matching balance marks and easing in the fullness where necessary. (iii) Trim the turnings. (iv) Fold the band R.S. together and machine the end of the band at the front opening. (v) Trim the turnings and turn the band to the R.S. (iv) Tack and hem in position. Hem Tack the hem at the lower edge of the shorts, leaving the tacking stitches in position at the end of the test. At the end of the examination remove the needle and unnecessary pins from your work. Write your name and index number on the label provided. Cut out the label and tack it to your test. The label should not cover any stitching and should be on single fabric. Press your work, fold it carefully and place it in the envelope provided. Do not include the scraps of fabric which you have left over.
