SP (NF) S34356/3 © CIE 2003 [Turn over 2 1 Planning Session (One hour and a quarter) (a) You are provided with the pattern of pants or shorts, McCalls 3132, with fly front opening, side pockets, back darts, waistband and belt carriers. (b) Make up the pants or shorts in a fabric and length of your choice. Using the carbonised sheets to make a duplicate copy, write out a shopping list of the requirements for completing the pants or shorts, giving an alternative for fabric, width and colour. (c) State four reasons for your first choice of fabric. (d) Please state your pattern size on the shopping list. The pattern should be divided for use in the Preparation Session. (e) Hand in the carbon copy of the shopping list, the pattern and the question paper to the Supervisor. [8] 2 Preparation Session (Two hours) (a) Adjust the pattern in any way necessary to achieve a good fit. (b) Plan the layout for the pants or shorts and cut out the pieces you require, including the interfacing. (c) Mark the necessary fitting lines and balance marks. (d) Assemble the pants or shorts for a fitting, without the waistband. (e) Any remaining time may be used to prepare the waistband and carriers. Note: You are to complete the preparation of the waistband and carriers (tacking/basting only) after the Preparation Session in readiness for use in the Examination Session. [8] 3 Examination Session (Three hours) Make up the pants or shorts to show: (a) the making of the darts; [8] (b) the completion of the fly front including the insertion of the zip; [10] (c) the completion of both pockets; [12] (d) (i) the completion of 12 cm of the leg seams; [4] (ii) the completion of the crotch seam; [6] (iii) the completion of 30 cm of the side seams; [4] (e) (i) the making and insertion of the belt carriers; [6] (ii) the making and application of the waistband; [12] (f) the final finish.
