ENG 4U1 FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT: WHAT I VALUE Objectives: • To give consideration to those aspects of your life that are important to you • To demonstrate your skills in stating what you value and supporting your statement with well organized and detailed evidence • To express your ideas in well-edited and coherent sentences Assignment: 1. In 600—800 words, illustrate to the reader what you value. You might consider something very specific (e.g. I value my time playing the classical guitar), or something more abstract (e.g. I value honesty and integrity). 2. In either case, you must support your statement with detailed evidence from your own experiences. 3. Your piece, which is essentially a short personal essay, should have a brief introduction, at least two to three body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. 4. Your thesis might be implicit or explicit, and you consider beginning the piece with a brief anecdote in order to show your reader, before ever telling him/her, what it is you value. 5. Your piece must be typed with 1.5 spacing.
