SMOV Proposal Process Beth Perriello October 24, 2007 Overview • • • • • Proposal Implementation Team (PIT) The PIT Process PIT Schedule The Proposal – Phase II Tips Important Links Proposal Implementation Team (PIT) • The team is made up of experts from the instrument teams, planning & scheduling teams, commanding teams, and OPUS. • The team is able to focus on implementing proposals efficiently and safely. • The team will use one or two meetings per proposal to develop and implement proposals. (Some proposals will require more meetings) The PIT Process • Proposal Submission – PI should make best attempt to convert the activity summary into a proposal. – Proposal should be submitted no later than one week before the PIT meeting for that proposal (earlier is better). • Proposal is then processed by the PC. The PC will send a galleyproof to PIT members indicating that the proposal is ready for the meeting. The PIT Process (cont’d) • Modifications & Resubmission - no later than one week before second meeting. • Proposal Re-processing • Second PIT Meeting if needed -verify the modifications -final review of proposal and products -approval to process to flight ready state • Third PIT Meeting if necessary PIT Schedule • PIT Meetings will begin the week of November 12, 2007. • Two meetings per week will be needed to keep on track to meet launch. • Four or five proposals will be reviewed per meeting. • Proposals requiring special commanding, PCS proposals, and proposals executing within the first three weeks of SMOV will be reviewed first. These proposals will need to be ready by mid-June 2008. The Proposal – Phase II Tips • • • • • Provide good, detailed descriptions Include related activity summary IDs Include prerequisite proposal IDs The cycle should be set to 17 All visits must have GYRO MODE set to 3GOBAD • BETWEENs should not be used. Predicted target availability should be placed in the target comments The Proposal – Phase II Tips (cont’d) • Guide star scenario should be left as default or single • Each proposal should allow for a launch slip of at least 1 month • Use the ON HOLD special requirement on contingency visits or proposals. • Download the latest version of the proposal before making changes to the proposal. The Proposal – Phase II Tips (cont’d) Expedited Data Flow • If data is needed in a timely fashion for analysis, then this needs to be explicitly mentioned in the visit comments. – Data to the PI within 12 hours of visit completion. – Data to the PI within 20 hours of visit completion. – Data to the PI within 32 hours of visit completion. • These numbers assume ~8 hours of processing after the data is downlinked from the spacecraft until the data is available to the PI.
