Research Based Multilingual First-Year Writing

Research Based
Submissions in this category should be a
research-based, documented article or
essay on any topic. Paper should not
exceed 20 pages.
Critical Analysis
Eligibility:
Contest categories are open to all manuscripts
prepared for undergraduate coursework in Summer
2011, Fall 2011 or Spring 2012 at Boise State. Essays
previously published are not eligible. A student may
enter multiple categories but may submit no more
than one entry to each category.
Prizes:
Two prizes will be awarded in each category: first
prize, $150; second prize, $75.
Categories:
Creative Nonfiction
Submissions in this category should be first-person
accounts that explore the writer’s experiences or
observations with honesty, insight, and artfulness.
Essays should not exceed 15 pages.
Essays in this category should critically
evaluate or analyze a piece of literature, a
theatrical performance, a work of visual
art, a historical moment, a philosophical
argument, a social movement, etc. Essays
should not exceed 15 pages.
Writing in Science, Engineering, and
Math
Submissions in this category are open to a
wide variety of topics and methodologies
and should include documentation specific
to their discipline. Paper length should
not exceed 10 pages.
First-Year Writing
Any student enrolled in English 90,
101,102, or 112 during Summer 2011, Fall
2011 or Spring 2012 may submit an essay
of any kind on any topic. There are no
length limits for this category.
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION is 5:00 P.M., March 20, 2012
Multilingual First-Year Writing
Any multilingual first-year writing
student enrolled in English 90, 121, 122,
or 123 in Summer 2011, Fall 2011 or
Spring 2012 may submit an essay of any
kind on any topic.
There are no length limits for this
category.
Manuscript Submission
Students may submit papers either
electronically or traditionally. Include a
cover sheet with all submissions that
includes the author’s name, address,
phone number, e-mail address, student
ID number, submission category, and the
name of the Professor the paper was
written for. The author’s name should
not appear on the manuscript. All
submissions should be written
in English unless otherwise specified.
Electronic
Submit your manuscript in Word as an
e-mail attachment to
deannajones@boisestate.edu.
Traditional
Submit entries in person to DeAnna Jones
in LA 256.
