Is the school a magnet/attraction/drive for families who are relocating (program, size, and culture of community)? Additional Comments: D ra f Smaller neighbourhood schools are very important to the character and desirability of any neighbourhood. Buyers ask all the time for us to find them a home close to a school. This is becoming increasingly difficult. It doesn’t mean we sell any less real estate; people have to move whether they are happy about the schooling situation or not, but there is no denying that the “community feeling” is being lost in neighbourhood after neighbourhood as this important community meeting place, the local school, is closed. And people don’t like it. Each of Laurine Ave., Tytler and King George have a vital place in their respective neighbourhoods. Although necessary, nearby schools are great for those with appropriately aged children, and not so great for those without children, or with children who would be attending the school. I do know that in the one instance where I showed a property close to King George, the school was a negative, mainly because the client was older and didn't want to hear the noise of kids playing outdoors. For that reason, I think that having both King George and Laurine Ave. so close together does not make sense, if there is sufficient land to consolidate both schools into one. Tytler would seem to be far enough away, and with an appropriately sized attendance area to serve that part of the City well. However, this whole part of the City is maturing, and may not be viable in the longer term. That said, I believe the potential for significant population growth, including younger children, is quite significant in the area around Tytler; not nearly so much around King George and Laurine Ave. I haven't had any experience re Tytler parents but do know my clients who live & have lived in Laurine Ave area want to keep that little school there and same for King George. I had clients moving here from Toronto and they actually selected St George's Park area 305-3 for their future home and one of the main reasons was the location (and also size, which we know will definetely change) of Laurine Ave School. I'd say "yes" to all schools or replacements being on same site if at all possible. It does affect families who really do NOT want busing etc 4.3 Partnerships Does the business community invest/promote human capital, i.e. awards, scholarships, co-op/mentoring, career awareness, material donations Explain: Y□ N □ ra f t What is the economic value of volunteerism by the community/businesses as a spin-off to the economy?
