Natives for Fires Restoration
2009 Accomplishments
The Payette NF has maintained an active
native plant materials program for over a
decade. In 2009, the Forest continued to
develop local contracts with Buffalo Berry to
propagate native shrubs on an annual
basis.
Locally grown plants used in restoration
implementation included: red-osier
dogwood, mountain spirea, silky lupine, and
other perennials.
Local volunteers, students, and YCC crews
collected seed and planted native shrubs.
Using native plant material dollars and other
fire funds, approximately, 20,000 shrubs
were planted in FY 2009 on the East Zone
Complex, Cascade Complex, and Grays
Creek Fires.
