Students will learn how to meet the developmental needs of young children, communicate, and effectively guide early behaviour. They will have practical experiences with children 0-6 years of age and will learn skills in investigating questions relating to parenting. Unit 1: Preparation for Parenthood Unit 2: Pregnancy & Birth Unit 3: Growth & Development Unit 4: Parenting Challenges Big Ideas (overall learning outcomes for the course): Parenting is a decision that lasts a lifetime Positive parenting techniques will create healthy relationships and will produce kids that will function better in society Children have changing developmental needs and it’s important to adapt to those needs Parents often have many concerns for the family and children Society has a major impact on children and families Course Evaluation: Students need to complete all assigned class work (Formative) to be prepared to do their best work on the 6-8 “fewer-richer” evaluations (Summative tasks) that will be used to determine the student’s final mark.
