FSH 6509.13a - ASSISTANT DISBURSING OFFICER HANDBOOK
10/79 R-1 SUPPLEMENT 24
CHAPTER 20 - CHECKS
22 - SAFEKEEPING REQUIREMENTS. All safekeeping facilities must weigh at least 300 lbs.
or be bolted or otherwise securely fastened to a wall or floor. Safekeeping facilities on casters or
rollers must be securely fastened to wall or floor. All safekeeping facilities must be equipped
with combination locks that meet or equal Underwriter Laboratory approved group 1
requirements. In order to meet this requirement, a lock must be manipulation proof, i.e., driver
draw pin point cannot be felt or heard with an electronic listening device. While not required, it
is recommended that the lock be constructed so that Forest Service personnel can easily change
the combination.
Each ADO must be provided with a separate locked compartment in a safekeeping facility that
meets the above requirements.
Blank ADO checks must be locked in safekeeping facility, except when ADO payrolling is in
progress.
If your current safekeeping facilities do not meet these requirements, in lieu of buying several
safes, we recommend that you consider purchasing a security filing cabinet with separate
independently controlled drawers. Each drawer should be equipped with a changeable
combination lock. See FSC Class 7110 for available safekeeping facilities and prices.
