DROP-OFF SITE FOR HAZARDOUS
HOUSEHOLD WASTE
Dear Resident
Some households, like yours, which form part of the targeted areas of Pinelands, Langa, Bridgetown,
Silvertown, Kewtown and Hazendal, will be able to bring their hazardous household waste to this dropoff site as from 1 November 2015 while the rest of the households in these suburbs and also Sybrand
Park will follow in due course.
The following will be accepted as hazardous household waste:
Asbestos waste material:
limited to plant containers,
gutters or old cement heaters
- No bulk waste will be accepted.
Used batteries
CFL (compact fluorescent
lamps) and other discharge
lamps
Swimming pool
chemicals
Chemical waste products
(air fresheners, all-purpose
cleaners)
Old paint and
brushes
Pesticide waste
Electronic waste
Used oils
Any product
contaminated by
infectious bodily
fluids
Explosive and
compressed waste:
for instance gas
cylinders
The following will not be accepted:
Bulk hazardous
household waste
from residents’
homes, offices or
businesses
Medical waste:
blood-stained
bandages and
plasters, expired
pharmaceuticals
Sanitary waste:
soiled disposable
nappies and adult
diapers
How to make use of this service
How to transport and handle special waste
Residents in the identified areas can use
the facility during operational hours. For
legislative requirements residents must bring
along their:
• Municipal account
• Identity book or driver’s licence
• Special waste must be placed in a safe, non-corroded container.
• It must be packed individually in separate cases to prevent
spillage and breakage.
• All asbestos cement waste should be double-bagged when
moist to prevent fibre release.
• Drive cautiously to ensure its safe transport to the drop-off site.

1. Take the N2 from Cape Town towards Somerset West.
2. Take exit 12 – Settlers Way runs into Bhunga Avenue.
3. Turn left into Bhunga Avenue.
4. Take the first road to your left, and continue for 650 m to reach the drop-off site on your right.
