Ideally, you will look for opportunities to integrate your travel or conference experience by: Making presentations (in the MUG, for Preview Days, at Cultural Nights, for Residence Hall, at Open Houses, as part of the World Languages Student-Led Lecture series, etc.) Assisting with IIC on-campus events and projects including: receptions for the exchange and international students; assisting at the Study Abroad Fair and Short Term Study Abroad Information Sessions Serving as an Event Coordinator or assistant through Student Services Ushering at events for Alverno Presents Volunteering in a department as a student assistant Assisting in the Alumnae Office with Homecoming activities Fundraising for Travelship Fund member class schedule Check with IIC to make sure file is complete Participate in an interview Delete text and insert image here. A Travelship is financial assistance given to supplement a student’s own contribution for travel or conference fees. The Travelship is meant to be paid back through service. Travelships are awarded twice each academic year, once in the spring and once in the fall. Travelship may be used for: Study abroad Course required travel Independent international study Professional conferences and/or seminars How do I apply? Come to the International and Intercultural Center in FO 111 to register. We will then send you an electronic application. Return your completed application by the deadline. Typically, the deadlines are the 1st Friday in November and April, but be sure to ask for exact date of deadline. How much funding can I request? Awards are for no less than $50 and no more than $1,000. The Travelship application includes a budget worksheet to help you determine the amount you will need. Recommendations Each Travelship application requires two recommendations. One must be from a faculty member. Recommendations must be received in the IIC in a sealed envelope or the recommenders may email the recommendations to Celia Jackson by the deadline. Let those you will ask for a Travelship recommendation know of the deadline. Personal Statement The Travelship application requires that all questions are completed. Submit your answers in an essay format or by answering each question. See travelship flyer for more details. Interview Each person applying for Travelship will be interviewed by the Travelship Award Committee. The Travelship Award Committee includes members of the IIC, faculty members, representatives from Academic Advising, Student Services and Financial Aid. In your application and during your interview, interviewers will consider: Can you articulate how the travel experience relates to your academic program and your professional goals? Are you in good academic standing? Are you in good financial standing? What is your financial need?
