General tariff principles – Principles applicable to GII-Internet
Can we compute it?
 traffic flow
 number of routes
 geographical coverage
 the cost of international transmission
Internet traffic flow measurement (1/3)
What is AS?
What is BGP?
How can BGP help us to examine mutual
traffic flow between two ASes?
Internet traffic flow measurement (2/3)
Traffic Flow Computing Among Autonomous Systems
—D.51 Recommendation draft
It is proposed that the traffic flow element mentioned in
D.50 can be measured by using the BGP protocol, that is
to say, the traffic flow data provided by the technical
layers of BGP can be used as an element in bilateral
negotiations on IIC.
Internet traffic flow measurement (3/3)
• The border router obtains some information about the packet using BGP
of an AS.
• The net load of packet flow could be calculated.
• AS could be classified into three types: sender, receiver, or relay
• calculate the total packet flow
A case Of Traffic Flow Collecting and Analyzing(1/4)
Purpose :
Analyze the traffic flow among the ASes
A case Of Traffic Flow Collecting and Analyzing(2/4)
Detailed process :
① Configure xFlow, set the sampling ratio
② Getting BGP routing tables of the router analytical equipment, reflecting the
IP address to the AS number
③ Summarizing and calculating the traffic flow
