MEMORANDUM
Date:
September 17, 2013
To:
Vice Presidents, Deans, Department Heads
Cc:
HR Liaisons
From:
El pagnier K. Hudson, M.S.
Assistant Vice President of Human Resources
Subject:
Classification & Compensation Redesign Project | UPDATE
In an effort to ensure optimal efficiency as well as uninterrupted progress during the position
description review period of the Classification & Compensation Redesign Project (CCRP), the
Steering Committee has approved an extension of the current moratorium. Initially scheduled
to end on September 17th, the moratorium will continue through December 15th in order to
allow the progressive work of the project to remain on-task. We will continue to respond to and
review special requests as needed so as not to interfere with critical university business needs
and operations.
We are in the most labor-intensive phase of the project and our goal is to enable the project team
to focus on the efforts that must be completed to maintain project milestones and timelines. At
this juncture, we have established twenty-two (22) mini-teams, representing the 22 job
families. Together with the subject matter experts, teams are reviewing every position
description within the administrative and staff groups and developing new job specifications
and career paths.
Please be reminded that the moratorium impacts the following actions through December 15,
2013:





Reclassifications
Updates to Position Descriptions
Pay Plan Changes
Added Duties
Degree Waivers
The following actions will not be impacted by the moratorium:


Positions that are “mission-critical,” approved and recommended by the unit head to the
Vice President of Human Resources
Evaluations of position descriptions for new or vacant positions required for recruitment

Salary actions in the best interest of the university related to the hiring and retention of
employees
As indicated in earlier communications, supervisors and business unit (BU) heads play a vital
role in this project by updating position descriptions in PantherSoft-HR. Much of the project’s
success rests on the completion of this function. Supervisors and BU heads should finalize the
updating the position descriptions for each of their direct reports in the PantherSoft-HR system,
expeditiously. A status report has been attached for your review. Please assist us by ensuring
your area has completed this critical aspect of the process.
For further information concerning the Project, please refer to the CCRP website at
hr.fiu.edu/ccrp. Thank you in advance for contributing to the successful completion of this
major initiative and your role in moving FIU Worlds Ahead. Should you have questions, please
contact Kim Greenfest, Director of Compensation Administration, at 305-348-4991 or email
kgreenfe@fiu.edu.
