The speakers at this event will discuss how utilities plan for, maintain
and manage a reliable, efficient power system to meet energy needs
for today and the future. We will discuss how utilities balance price,
reliability, regulatory and environmental stewardship to meet the
growing energy needs of local businesses and communities. We also
will share exciting professional opportunities for engineers as utilities
address the challenges of Smart Gird, integration for renewables,
electric vehicles and other technological advances.
Vern Porter, appointed Vice President of Engineering and
Construction in May 2012, joined Idaho Power in 1989 after starting
his career in 1986 with Pacific Gas and Electric Company. Prior to his
current position, Porter has held a variety of other positions within the
company, including: high voltage transmission engineer, system
planner, technical operations engineer, energy trader, senior manager
of Grid Operations, senior manager of Customer Service, general
manager of Power Production and vice president of Engineering and
Operations.

Porter represented the company at Western Electric Coordinating
Council (WECC), Northwest Power Pool and served on the Pacific
Northwest Security Coordinator board. He also chaired the WECC Y2K
Operational Preparedness Task Force and the WECC July 2, 1996
Outage Investigation Task Force. Porter is a graduate of Brigham
Young University, earning his Bachelor of Science in electrical
engineering in 1985 and Masters of Science in 1986.
Colleen Ramsey is the Manager of the Delivery Engineering and
Design Department at Idaho Power, and is responsible for the
Engineering and Design of Idaho Power's Delivery System; which
includes Transmission and Distribution Lines, Substations, System
Protection and Control, and Communication systems. Colleen began
her career at Idaho Power as Station Design Engineer. During her 32
year career, Colleen has held the positions of Delivery Construction
Manager, Station Maintenance Supervisor, Regional Lines Operations
Supervisor, Project Manager, Metering Manager, Lines Leader and
Software Application Support Manager
