Executive Committee MINUTES November 24, 2008 1:30-3:00pm 428 Library Present: Paula Kaufman, Chair; Bill Mischo, Vice-chair; Michael Norman, Secretary; Karen Hogenboom; Chris Prom; JoAnn Jacoby; John Wagstaff, Beth Woodard; Greg Youngen; Kim Matherly, recording 1. Questions Is it too early to contact President-elect Obama about his presidential Library? Paula is already on top of it and has sent information to the Chancellor so he can contact Obama’s people. A personnel issue was discussed. A short discussion regarding promotion and tenure resulted in a small group being formed to draft a proposal. There was a reminder that confidential information needs to be kept confidential. 2. Minutes from November 10, 2008 Minutes were approved with changes. 3. Review of current searches Paula did alert the Committee that the Provost will need to approve any open position request to be filled. a. Head of Undergraduate Library – The committee feels this position is critical and must be filled. b. Planning, Landscape Architecture and Design Librarian – The committee discussed some possible alternatives to this and those involved will be contacted. c. Instructional Services – The committee discussed some possible alternatives. Lisa Hinchliffe will be invited to the next Executive Committee meeting to give a broader view of instruction in the Library. d. Systems Engineer – Paula will discuss this position further with AUL for IT. 4. ICR Seed Grant Funds The Committee reviewed all ICR Seed Grant submissions. One was approved, one needs more clarification, and the Committee declined the two other funding requests. 5. Energy Conservation and Sustainability Working Group a. Charge – The Committee approved the charge. b. Membership - An additional member was suggested for the working group. Tom Teper will be asked to chair. The working group will be asked to supply status reports on a regular basis. 6. Communications/LIS NSM Team Interim Report This discussion will be continued at the next meeting. 7. Unit Heads Proposal This will be discussed at the next meeting.
