Step Out of the Shadows!
2015 is the International Year of Light
Victoria. 2015 has been
declared by the United
Nations as the International
Year of Light and PrimeSCI!
is celebrating it with one of
its most popular sessions ‘Light and Colour’.
Dirt, Dinos, and DNA!
Exciting new lessons for
Terms 3 and 4
Feature
Students experience the
principles and behaviour of
light through an actionpacked series of clever
activities and awesome
equipment.
“It may be that you are not yourself
luminous, but that you are a
conductor of light. Some people
without possessing genius have a
remarkable power of stimulating
it.”
Arthur Conan Doyle
Author of Sherlock Holmes
Students learn how to catch light,
bounce light, slow it down, split it up,
focus it, combine it, and as if that
weren’t enough, they also learn how to
use light to make things reappear.
PrimeTeachers
The wonder continues when
students see for themselves
how the mixing of light is very
different from mixing paint.
This highly popular session is
suitable for Preps to Year 2s,
and Year 5 students.
Celebrate the 2015
International Year of Light
with this powerful session as a
classroom incursion or a

In 1961, Dave Warren (1925-2010) created the
black box flight recorder - the device that records
voices from the cockpit, as well as flight data. The
durable boxes were designed to replay the final
moments before a plane crash, revealing what went
wrong. Today, every commercial plane flies with
this Australian invention.
He had also taught at the Geelong Grammar
School between 1944 to 1946.

‘Family Science Nights’ is a growing
trend in schools to provide an
opportunity for children and their
families to learn and play together.
When schools organise programmes
like this, they foster a community of
curiosity and prepare young minds for
the learning of the science.
Holiday Science Workshops
at Swinburne University are now open for
booking.
Students used decimal numbers to
break away from Earth’s gravitational
force, ordered time to compare days
and nights on other planets in our Solar
System, and used fractions to make a
scale model of the Solar System. And
then there were explosions!
