Ask the Examiner – A2 core
Six “gems” to help your students prepare for these exams.
1
Know the syllabus
2
Know what the words mean
Write down
Find
Hence
Calculate
Exact
Algebraically
Evaluate
Show that
3
Understand the relationship between marks and time
Total mark is 72. Total time is 90 mins
A 2 mark question should not take more than 3 minutes and certainly not cover more than half
a page
4
Know the rubric
Final answers should be given to a degree of accuracy appropriate to the context.
Usually 3 or 4 significant figures. Never more!!
You are advised that an answer may receive no marks unless you show sufficient detail of the
working to indicate that a correct methods is being used.
5
Understand the structure of a question
A mark is a mark and a “harder” question does not necessarily attract more marks.
6
Be kind to the examiner and to yourself by setting out your work neatly and logically
The book is free to the candidate! Why put all the answers on 2 pages, leaving another 10
blank?
