Update Instructions
================================================================================
Please refer to the MergePoint 5200/5224/5240 Installer/User Guide for detailed instructions on how to
update the MergePoint 5200/5224/5240 service processor manager to version 4.0.0.

Features/Enhancements
================================================================================
This release contains the following enhancements:
1. Additional SP Support
In addition to the SPs supported in previous versions – IPMI 1.5, IPMI 2.0, HP iLO, HP iLO2, Dell DRAC III,
Dell DRAC 4, IBM RSA II and Sun ALOM –, this new firmware supports the following SPs:
•
•
•
•
•
Dell ™ DRAC 5
HP® IPMI (e.g. on HP Proliant DL145G1 and DL145G2)
Sun® ILOM
Fujitsu-Siemens® iRMC
IBM® BladeCenter
2. DirectCommand auto-login
Users with proper rights can now access the SP’s web interface without the need to know the SP’s login
information, as the MergePoint appliance will automatically logon to the SP in the background.
3. Direct access to vKVM and vMedia features from the SPs
Users with proper rights can now access the SP’s KVM and virtual media directly with one click, through
DirectCommand’s newly added support for autologin and automatic navigation into those SP features.
4. DHCP Support
All MergePoint appliances now support DHCP for dynamic IP address assignment to targets.
5. Autodiscovery and configuration of DHCP-enabled SPs (MergePoint 5224/5240 only)
As an extension of the DHCP support feature, the MergePoint 5224/5240 appliances can automatically
detect SPs with DHCP enabled that are plugged into its Server Ethernet ports, and then automatically add
those SPs to the unmanaged target list of the appliance (and of DSView® 3 software, if auto
synchronization is enabled). This greatly simplifies the deployment of new SPs that support DHCP, such as
iLO, iLO2 and RSA II.
6. User access control lists
Admin users can assign access permissions for targets to users or groups of users, so that when these
users log in to the MergePoint appliance, they will only see the target(s) they have permission to access.
This is available to admin users only, and these settings are applicable to regular and operator users only
(admin users always have access to all targets). Specific roles and access rights can be defined for each
and every SP.
7. Server-based authentication
All MergePoint appliance models now support RADIUS, LDAP, TACACS+, Kerberos, NIS and SMB as
authentication methods, along with local authentication.
8. Improvements in the DSView 3 Plug-in for the MergePoint 5200/5224/5240 SP Manager
The new DSView 3 Plug-in version 4.0.0 for MergePoint appliances supports all MergePoint appliance
models and allows for access, configuration, and management of these appliances from DSView 3
software version 3.4.1 or later. Please refer to the release notes for the DSView 3 Plug-in for the
MergePoint appliance version 4.0.0 for more details.
9. Provisioning recovery (IPMI only)
The MergePoint appliance user interface now allows users to easily recover the provisioning information of
an SP that needs to be reprovisioned.

Known Issues
================================================================================
This release contains the following known issues:
1. The MergePoint 5200/5224/5240 Plug-in for DSView 3 software version 3.4.1 is required in order to
manage the MergePoint 5200/5224/5240 appliance firmware v3.1.0 or later.
2. Usernames under User Configuration must be all lowercase letters.
3. BMC Provisioning can only be configured to use the secondary Ethernet Interface (eth1).
4. We support alias for every SP. Do not use special characters.
“0—9”, “a—z”, “A—Z” and “-“.
5. Losing power during an upgrade is non-recoverable.
Only the following letters are allowed:
